Personal Information we collect
The document mentions the following about privacy:
In my capacity as a registered marriage celebrant authorized to solemnize marriages in Australia, it is my duty and responsibility to collect and manage specific personal information from couples wishing to marry. This process is guided by legal requirements to ensure the validity and recognition of the marriage under Australian law. The types of information collected include:
- Full Legal Names: Essential for accurately identifying both parties entering into marriage.
- Date and Place of Birth: Required to verify the ages of the individuals and ensure they meet the legal age requirement for marriage.
- Current Residential Addresses: Needed for official correspondence and legal documentation.
- Proof of Identity: Verification through government-issued identification, such as passports or driver’s licenses, to prevent identity fraud.
- Marital Status: Information regarding whether each individual has never been married, is divorced, or widowed, which may necessitate the provision of supporting documents like divorce decrees or death certificates.
- Consent and Witnesses: To affirm that the marriage is consensual and to fulfill the requirement of having at least two witnesses present at the ceremony.
- Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM): A mandatory document to be completed and submitted at least one month before the wedding, detailing the couple’s intention to marry and including all requisite personal details.
- Divorce or Death Certificates: If applicable, these documents serve as evidence of the legal dissolution of any previous marriages, allowing the new marriage to proceed.
- Legal Requirements Compliance: Ensuring that the couple satisfies all legal stipulations for marriage in Australia, including but not limited to age restrictions and consent for minors.
This information is gathered with the utmost respect for privacy and is used exclusively to fulfil my legal obligations as a celebrant and ensure a smooth, compliant marriage process. I am committed to safeguarding this data in line with Australia’s privacy regulations and only use it in direct relation to the services provided.
